Hot, Hot, Heat

As Britain freezes, it’s probably unfair to rub it in about about the heatwave Melbourne has been experiencing. But screw that, I’ll rub away! Having said that, even the most sun starved Brit would’ve have found last week’s weather too stifling when the mercury hit 44°C.

These kind of temperatures are not something I’m used to, growing up in chilly Newcastle. Even on my visit to southern India last year, the thermometer remained stubbornly under 40°C (although, it was a more sticky humid kind of heat there). So it’s been a bit of a learning curve to see how Melburnians deal with a heatwave which even for them is extreme (there’s been nothing like this since the early 20th century). Continue reading
